People often make the first call to a therapist when they find themselves having the same uncomfortable feelings, or acting in self-defeating ways, over and over despite having tried to make changes on their own. I provide a non-judgmental space where my clients and I explore together the underlying feelings and thoughts that contribute to their current struggles, and work with them to make significant change in their lives. My background is in insight-oriented psychodynamic therapy, and I incorporate techniques from CBT therapy and mindfulness practice when indicated.
A native New Yorker, I earned a BA from Vassar College and a PhD from the Graduate Center of CUNY. My post-doctoral study includes a Certificate in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis from NYU, and family and couples training from the Urban Institute of the Einstein College of Medicine. I am an adjunct clinical supervisor in the CUNY Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program.
I find it very gratifying to work with adults of all ages, couples who are struggling, and I have extensive experience helping adolescents navigate turbulent emotional times. As the Director of Counseling and Guidance at a NYC independent high school for many years, I know the world of teenagers from many perspectives. My style is informal and conversational and I am skilled at putting clients of all ages at ease.
Before graduate school I had a career as a professional chef, and accessing the creative process is a continued interest.
